I found this article after we had some discussion among the Inkers earlier this week about whether or not the Hunger Games movie would be rated 'R'.
I'm a little surprised so many people are clamoring for an 'R' rating. I'm glad to see the director's perspective on this because I don't think blood and gore is the point.
There is more of the interview with Gary Ross under the "Read More" heading at the bottom if you're interested.
Good to know. I agree that the book wasn't written to glorify the voilence.
ReplyDeleteI also LOVE the comments that the clamoring for an R rating is to appease adults who are worried about loving a YA book.
I can't imagine why any adult would root for an R rating anyway. It's not like they cut out a lot in a PG-13. Personally, I hope it's PG-13 because I won't see it otherwise and the language will be more tame. (less F-bombs) But, really, there was plenty of action and violence in the Batman series. At least, I don't recall anyone complaining that it wasn't violent enough. Anyway, to make my point clear, I think some action and violence will be necessary to tell the story, but I think they'll manage with a PG-13 rating.
