So Sushi Me!

The other night I had someone tell me, "Sushi is disgusting. I tried it and I don't see how anyone can like it. The only people who eat sushi are those trying to be cool."

Now, this statement offended me on two levels. First, because I LOVE sushi. And secondly, because she seemed to imply that I needed to try to be cool.

I'm plenty cool without the sushi folks. Trust me! I've never met a roll that can match me in pure awesomeness. But I digress...

This kind of nonsense is exactly what I posted about last week. We don't all have to enjoy the same things. We don't all have to hate the same things. You certainly shouldn't imply that if someone has a different opinion than you that they are somehow defective (or trying to be cool). No matter how neat I am, in a world full of Debbie's, I'd only be ordinary.

So let's celebrate our differences over a big plate of sushi. And if you don't like sushi then you are a loser with no taste.

  1. Since I spend all my time trying to be cool I find myself often sitting lonely at the sushi bars. I guess I am just doomed to be forever looked down upon by those who just know better than me. I thought I genuinely liked the stuff. Who knew I was just suffering from being uncool.

  2. So did you give her the slap, or the slap/backslap combo, followed by stuffing her face in a plate of sashimi?

  3. Funny, because I thought sushi was cool because I like it--not the other way around. I add the cool to sushi. So did this sushi despiser cite her favorite not-trying-to-be-cool restaurants? McDonald's, Five-Buck Pizza, maybe Arby's and Subway?

I'll stick with the cool stuff, for obvious reasons.

  4. It's time to say this right out loud...I love sushi! Not all of it and not all the time, but there are definitely plenty of yummy sushi choices that I love so I'll admit it. So glad that I have super cool friends who love sushi too.

  5. Linda, I gave her a ngiri roundhouse kick and threw some Big Mac ninja stars.

I think you're right, Kirk. She probably loves Five-Buck...not that there's anything wrong with that :)

  6. See, I don't care for Sushi but I still love you, Deb! Friends? Of course we are. You don't even need to answer that. =]

  7. I love Sushi and I think I could eat a roll a day . . .
Sir-Kirk-A-Lot, you make sushi so cool. Esp. when you walk into a sushi joint with 4 women on Valentine's weekend. Too cool.

I drove by that sushi joint yesterday and drooled just thinking about it.

But on the thought of liking something just to be cool, I think that's why I liked Nirvana. (Or at least that is what I tell myself now that I'm grown and Kirk Cobain in dead.)

  8. Again, what made Nirvana cool? Yes. Kirk. :)
