First Date

I have heard great things about you. Still, as I prepare to meet you, I wonder. Could you really be all that? Or, will it be like other times when I ended up bored, disgusted, or otherwise let down.

Our first interaction is encouraging. You make me care about you immediately, draw me in. I want to hear more about you. Your world intrigues me. I empathize with your struggles. Although I barely know you, I'm rooting for you to be everything I hope you will be.

It's getting late. I really should go. It's so hard to part from you. You already have a place in my heart. Tomorrow night? Yes, I'm available. I'll look forward to getting to know you better.

Now that we're apart, I find myself thinking of you often, wondering where we'll go from here. Please don't disappoint me. We're off to such a good start. I think I may even be in love with...

The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins

  1. I know. It's a cathing one. It haunts you. Those are becoming my favorite type of books. The ones that you can't get out of your head.

  2. I don't understand why so many people like The Hunger Games. The premise angered me so much I couldn't finish reading the book. I felt as if I was somehow participating in it by reading it.

  3. Here's the thing about the Hunger Games. The evil in it is TRULY evil, but also over-come-able. I think the series will have an incredibly satisfying ending and I can't wait for it.

  4. Linda, I LOVE this post. I absolutely do. Welcome back from the PED crazy work schedule to some fun, fun, fun. Can't wait to talk to you about Hunger Games and Catching Fire. If you liked the first date you're going to love the second one.

  5. What a brilliant book. It's one of those that's so intelligent I'm not bothered by anything anyone says about it, because she got everything right in it. Perfect.

  6. Finished reading it at 1 AM. Love, Love! Hope to secure a copy of Catching Fire this week, then have to wait until August to see how it works out. Sigh.

  7. At least you only have to wait two paltry months.

Glad you love it. I struggled with the ending of Hunger Games, but after Catching Fire I can say I LOVE IT!!!!!

  8. I appreciate that not everyone will like Hunger Games. In fact, I recommend it with a heavy side of, "This is pretty dark and may not be your kind of book..." However, what separates Hunger Games from so many other books with a similar feel or concept is the writing. Suzanne Collins is truly masterful at picking the right details, and keeping the descriptions succinct without robbing the reader of information. Amazing!

  9. No, I'm in love with Hunger Games! How can you be, too? :D (Don't tell, but I'm also in love with Catching Fire, and I have a date with their triplet in August, Mockingjay.)
