Deja vu

I experienced deja vu this week. I was sitting on the floor in my son's room playing with him and I looked up at the little tent canopy over his bunk bed and very clearly recalled a dream I had with the same scene in it.

I'm curious what everyone's theories are about deja vu. I think it could be the basis of a good thriller. I personally can't recall at the moment reading any books or seeing any movies with that premise, but I'm sure there are many out there. Anyone know of a good one? I know there is a Denzel Washington movie called Deja Vu, but I never saw it.

  1. I have had deja vu lots. Several times I've had a dream and then years later I'll be somewhere in a different town or state and see the scene...
When I was a teenager I had just moved to Seattle and I was looking for a new dance studio and I walked into one and realized I had a dream about that place--only I was being bombed in the dream. I didn't dance there. It was too freaky for me. :) There is my two cents.

  2. Happens to me all the time. In fact I almost posted on Dashner's blog today about how my dreams come true cause he asked for odd things about us. Now the odd thing is that its not that odd. Are we like the only three people who have this happen? Is it something about being blonde? Or Not growing up in Utah or whatever else we have in common? "Curiouser and curiouser"
I've had this happen several times in my life and I think it is probably an under used premise for storytelling. Usually when deja vu happens in a book or movie it is really repressed memory or clarivoyance. Which I am not claiming. Since the French have a term for it then it must not be that uncommon. Or maybe its a French trait. Linda and DJ do you have French ancestors? I know I do...maybe that's why we all dream about a place before we've ever seen it.
At this point in my life I just go with it and assume it means I'm on the right track.

  3. Yeah, it's happened to me many times throughout my life - always with the recollection that I've dreamed it before. I did some brief research after this week's experience and there appears to be no solid scientific explanation for it because it happens so randomly it can't really be monitored or studied. One of those unexplained aspects of life I guess...

  4. In "The Matrix", deja vu occured when there was a glitch in the system. Maybe we are all plugged in to this artificial Matrix and you three are just the glitchiest.

  5. I love that you came through with "The Matrix", Deb. :) If you didn't, I was going to.

  6. Good thing Deb and Arlene mentioned the Matrix, 'cause that's always the first thing to come to mind--black cats and all that. Deja Vu happens when there's a glitch in the matrix, specifically when they CHANGE something.
