The Next Big Thing

My son started preschool today. Let me hear the cheers! Come on, people! Woot! Woot! Huzzah!

And on to other news. I went camping on Friday and got to talk to a fellow bookaholic who had a love/hate relationship with the last Twilight book. This brings me to my next question. Has 'the next big thing' come out yet? Is it in the editing process as I type this? Is there a debut novelist out there just waiting for the limelight to fall on them? If you all have a series in mind that you think is filling the niche, please, by all means, make your comments known. For myself, I don't think it's been written yet.

  1. Book one of Harry Potter came out in 1998. Twilight came out in 2006. So if we continue in the eight year cycle, The next big thing will be out in 2014. Aspiring authors, let's get ready :)

  2. Oh, its been written. We're just waiting for an agent to pick it up. The wait is so long, isn't it Donna?

Hooray for preschool. My baby just turned 5 today. How's that for CRAZY? I'm a bit sad that there aren't any tine ones following behind, but at the same time, extremely grateful there are no little ones following behind. :)

  4. Hooray for Lene. I'm sure the next huge book is out there somewhere in the process of either being agented or prepped for print. Have we seen it yet? I don't think so? Remember that Harry and Twilight didn't hit it humungous until Book 3...hmmm. Harry Potter hit the US in 1998 but I am pretty sure that one and two where out in the UK in 1996 or 97. I remember getting the trilogy for Christmas 1998.

  5. He's not new,but the next big publishing deal happens next week with the release of Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol.

Has anyone ordered a copy that I might bum off of you when you're finished?

  6. Honestly I think the "big thing" right now is "The Hunger Games" but it's not getting that kind of attention yet. It's only going to be a trilogy too, whereas the others were a series and a saga. There will be a movie, though.

  7. I agree with Graham on that. You all should read "The Hunger Games". At the risk of offending someone in cyberspace, I think it's a much better read than "Forest of Hands and Teeth".
