To the Women

So I had a rather poignant conversation with a colleague today, and by the end of it we both arrived at the sad conclusion that women, in certain war-torn areas of the world especially but not exclusively, have been trodden down and subjugated to such violence and misogynistic terror over the centuries, but certainly no less today.

I'm dedicating today's post to those women out there in this twisted, violent world who are suffering because of the ignorance and brutality of mankind, whether it be in the Taliban-benighted towns of Pakistan and Afghanistan or in a suburb of Cleveland. God loves you.

  1. Amen to that, Kirk.

And I would also like to throw out some acknowledgement to all the hard working mothers out there who got up early today to help their kids get in costume, who are helping in classes, who are attending trunk or treats and school parades. The moms' who love their kids more than they love themselves and do what it takes to make the holiday enjoyable.

    Good work, ladies.

  2. Bravo, Kirk. It is incredible, the brutality that some women have to endure in this life. There have been several stories in the news in recent months that have made me shudder. It is so amazing how some of these women survive horrific things and continue to go forward with their life (Elizabeth Smart comes to mind).

This is why we love having you as our "token male" Kirk. You appreciate us. :)

  3. I know I should be feeling the love, but I really just want to beat someone up for all of the terrible, evil things evil people inflict on others. Seriously. Who gives them the right?

  4. Wow. God bless you, Kirk. What a beautiful, thoughtful sentiment. If more people felt this way, we wouldn't have these problems. And you know what, God bless your mom. She must be one fine lady to have raised such a son.

  5. Props to you, sir. I believe in a just God--that being the case, I'm confident there's a real SPECIAL hell for the people who put women under their heel (literally and metaphorically). "A hell reserved for child molesters and people who talk at the theater", to quote a TV Christian ;-)

But in all seriousness, whether at home or abroad, this is a major issue and we all need to confront it and stamp it out. One of my friends just got out of a relationship where the guy basically had her on backup while he looked for "something better"--and in the meantime he told her she was fat, ugly, stupid, etc, all while trying to use her as a concubine. I can't stand guys like that. If we accomplish nothing else in our lifetimes, let's at least stomp out that kind of crappy behavior.

  6. There is a quick and rather painful solution for guys like that. Somehow no matter how evil they get no judge wants to bring back the old biblical solution of turning them into eunichs and making them serve in the harem for the rest of their lives. It would be poetic justice if you ask me.

  7. Maybe after the Silent Knight gets out of jail, he could retire from killing adulterers and set his sights on dudes who just make it harder for the rest of us.

    (Story idea).

But back in reality, I'm on board with Donna, even though thinking about it huuuuuuuuuuuuuuurts
