Inspire Me!

I had an unproductive writing week. My time was limited, sure, but when I had time to sit, my fingers dangled over the keyboard, the promise of writing success eluding me. Frustration built, I banged at the keyboard, trying to force brilliance from mind, but that caveman (errr, cavewoman) mentality didn't get me far. Perhaps I needed inspiration...or less stress.

Since I can't control the stress in my life, my question is: What do you do when your well of inspiration is running dry?

I chose to let it go. To give myself a few days without worry of stonewalling words and backed-up toilets of thought.

Yes, my thoughts often do swim in the toilet.

I hoped a small break would help me stop thinking about it so much and let my heart lead the way. After all, why write (or do anything) if your heart isn't in it?

Wish me luck!

  1. Debbie I think we've all hit that wall at some point. Your strategy is good, to step away for a bit. Just don't stay away too long. I've found it's good to make yourself get something down, even when it hurts and it comes out as crap. You can always go back and make it better.

You're doing great. Just remember, you've been our word count leader three weeks in a row, so your toilet can't be that stopped up.

  2. Perspective can be a great muse. Sometimes we all just need to take a step back and do something else to refill our creative wells. You can't keep draining it and not expect an empty bucket now and then. My suggestion? Movie night. =]

  4. I usually sit in front of my bookshelf and look at books I've read before, and then think about what really worked in them. OR, you can listen to music that goes with your story, OR you can read through something you've already written that was really great. That'll help get the creative juices flowing.

  6. Take a long hot shower. I'm serious. My best ideas come to me in my steamy haven. Love it.
